In this body of work, I was inspired directly by the music of early 20th-century composer Igor Stravinsky. As a trained musician, I gravitate to his use of harmonies, dissonance, and rhythm to create dramatic and breathtaking moments. While some of these pieces are directly related to a particular composition, on the whole, I was thinking about how to sculpt sound—how to translate rhythmic and melodic experiences into something tangible, tactile? Music is a kind of information that we process with our entire bodies, you move to the beat. Here I tried to capture the movement, the regularity of the beat, the rhythm and how it moves you along. While the visual arts have the privilege of presenting all at once, the long horizontal lines raking across each piece are indicative of the music score and time made concrete. As you view the work, I hope you can be sensitive to your own interior rhythm and melody.
